Event Details

Come learn from industry experts on how to sharpen a critical entrepreneurial skill: the ability to recognize opportunities and identify which are worth pursuing. Program participants will build their skills and confidence to research an industry and its market characteristics, potential competitors, and customers. You’ll learn how to analyze initial data to help confirm or refine a business concept, and how to position your business and product for success.

This is an important program in OCTANe Foundation for Innovation's (OFI) “Building Blocks” series – a six month development program to help entrepreneurs hone the skills needed to create, manage, and grow a successful business.

Speaker: Greg Brooks, Allergan

Greg Brooks has been with Allergan for over 29 years in a variety of sales and marketing roles. At the end of 2003, Greg was appointed Vice President Strategic Marketing, New Technology at Allergan, Inc., headquartered in Irvine, California.  Allergan, with sales of $4.3 billion in 2008, is a technology driven global healthcare company providing eye and specialty pharmaceutical products worldwide.

In his current position, Greg is responsible for the strategic and commercial development of Allergan’s new technology pipeline.  His primary initiative is to expand the therapeutic areas of focus by working closely with research and development on new chemical entities outside the company’s traditional areas of business, and by working closely with Business Development to identify acquisition targets and licensing opportunities for emerging disease areas of interest.

The portfolio of product responsibilities include new therapeutic applications for BOTOX® in Urology, next generation treatments in pain beyond BOTOX®, small molecules for neuropathic and visceral pain, and assessment of external assets for M&A.  Greg and his team set the key business objectives for the new products based on the desired target product profiles that will maximize the commercial market opportunity and address unmet medical needs. Previously as Vice President, Global BOTOX® Marketing from 1998-2003, Greg was responsible for the commercial and market development around the world for multiple diseases and therapeutic indications.  The BOTOX® business currently operates in over 70 countries and in 2008 generated over $1.3 billion in annual sales.  BOTOX® (one product, three brands) is a global blockbuster product ranking in the top 200 pharmaceutical brands (Med Ad News).  Today, BOTOX® is widely accepted around the world as the standard for indications ranging from orphan disorders, neuromuscular disorders and related pain, to cosmetic facial aesthetics.  Through Greg’s leadership, the global team directed the planning function with the worldwide commercial organizations to ensure successful execution of the annual marketing plans. He  was also responsible for establishing Allergan’s Global Health Outcomes Strategy and Research function to develop the value proposition for new and in-line products.

Greg is on the Board of Directors for Allergan BOTOX Limited (ABL) and Allergan Pharmaceuticals Holding Ireland (APHI) Limited.  He is a founding member of the NORD (National Organization of Rare Disorders) corporate council comprised of over 50 active pharmaceutical companies supporting the successful development and commercialization of Orphan drugs. Greg is also an active  member of the OCTANe Biomedical Leadership committee providing expert guidance to start-ups and early stage companies.
